DeskJoin Screen release notes.

A concise history of the most important change in each DeskJoin Screen release.

Version history

macOS release highlights.

Version 2.7

Made Accessibility permission optional at startup and added its current status with a direct Settings button in About. Accessibility is required only when an iPad or Android device controls the Mac pointer and clicks.

Version 2.6

Added remote pointer movement and click control from compatible iPads and tablets, introduced clear Accessibility permission guidance, strengthened cursor delivery, and improved Extend startup with virtual-display mode validation and automatic resolution fallbacks.

Version 2.5

Added reliable cursor shape and movement synchronization to Mirror mode, fixed receiver shutdown and decoding crashes, stabilized Bonjour discovery by ignoring utun-only changes and persisting each Mac's device identity across launches, and reduced routine frame logging.

Version 2.4

Improved H.265 startup reliability by continuing with HEVC after VideoToolbox prepares the encoder successfully, preventing an incompatible H.264 fallback for non-Windows receivers.

Version 2.3

Improved high-resolution Extend reliability with HEVC and H.264 encoder fallbacks and resolution retries, fixed cursor updates over dynamically assigned UDP ports, and added a clear alert when no compatible hardware encoder is available.

Version 2.2

Improved cross-platform connections by using system-assigned Bonjour service ports and each peer's advertised port, and standardized video encoding to H.265 for non-Windows receivers while keeping H.264 for Windows.

Version 2.1

Improved cross-platform discovery and session reliability, added dedicated TCP media transport and cursor synchronization, and introduced persistent diagnostic logging.

Version 2.0

Renamed BeyondDisplay to DeskJoin Screen and improved Bonjour discovery with protocol validation, automatic device recovery, and first-reachable-endpoint selection.

Version 1.9

Hardened Mirror startup with request tracking, stale and duplicate response handling, clearer connection failures, packet validation, and expanded automated tests. The universal release is signed and notarized for direct DMG installation.

Version 1.8

Improved network resilience, moved ShareScreen to ARC, and added Mirror startup acknowledgements, timeout handling, and automated tests.

Version 1.7

Improved ScreenCaptureKit stability, screen-recording permission onboarding, and share-screen packet handling.

Version 1.6

Added Ping and Pong heartbeats, disconnect timeouts, and cooldown handling so stale sessions close automatically.

Version 1.5

Improved HiDPI virtual display selection, capture resolution, and H.264 and H.265 streaming quality.

Version 1.4

Added HEVC and H.265 streaming for higher-resolution screen sharing.

Version 1.3

Added Mirror Screen and requested Screen Recording permission only when Extend or Mirror starts.

Version 1.2

Raised streaming quality with lower H.264 QP values and higher bitrate limits for scaled displays.

Version 1.1

Lowered the minimum requirement to macOS 12.3 and improved discovery by probing every endpoint for each device.

Version 1.0

Restarted Bonjour publishing and browsing whenever network interfaces changed.

Version 0.9

Added signed and notarized App, DMG, and PKG release workflows.

Version 0.8

Restarted discovery automatically when Wi-Fi or Ethernet network state changed.

Version 0.7

Added an About window with version, website, permission, Bonjour, copyright, and Sparkle information.

Version 0.6

Added TCP health probes for Bonjour devices and removed peers from the menu when they stopped responding.

Version 0.5

Replaced custom multicast discovery with Bonjour and mDNS for more reliable local device discovery.

Version 0.3

Added sleep, wake, and lid-state observers to stop and restart networking appropriately.

Version 0.2

Added receiver power assertions and stopped sharing when the sender display went to sleep.

Version 0.1

Introduced Menu Bar discovery and Mac-to-Mac extended display streaming with ScreenCaptureKit and H.264.
