Windows 1.5

Heartbeat timeouts, receiver cleanup and connection diagnostics. Released September 24, 2026.

Version 1.5 · September 24, 2026

  • Matches macOS heartbeat roles: the screen sender sends PING after one second of inactivity and disconnects if PONG does not arrive within five seconds.
  • The screen receiver replies with PONG and refreshes its five-second activity timer when valid video, cursor data or PING arrives.
  • Closes the receiver window and restores the local cursor when a connection is lost. Attempts the normal stop notification before closing session sockets.
  • Adds logs for Esc, Alt+F4, WM_CLOSE, receiver shutdown, Control/Media socket closure reasons and Winsock error codes.
  • Logs heartbeat startup, shutdown and failures without logging every PING/PONG packet.
  • Adds TCP keepalive and bounded socket sends to improve cleanup when a peer becomes unreachable.

Version 1.4 · September 23, 2026

  • Uses Windows Desktop Duplication to capture the screen and cursor, and recreates the capture session if access is lost.
  • Sends cursor shape, hotspot, position and visibility separately in Mirror mode, and draws the remote cursor over the received picture.
  • Exchanges cursor UDP ports during Mirror setup and sends a reliable TCP copy of cursor position updates to improve delivery.
  • Adds timestamped daily logs with buffered disk writes every 10 minutes or when the buffer is full, retaining five days of logs.
  • Adds a Bug Report button in About to prepare an email with the app version and recent logs. Review the report in your mail app before sending; clients without attachment support require manual attachment.

Version 1.3 · September 18, 2026

  • Activates and focuses the full-screen receiver window when an Extend or Mirror session starts.
  • Accepts cursor updates from the active sharing peer even when its UDP source port differs from its advertised TCP service port.
  • Associates cursor packets with the established IPv6 sharing session instead of requiring Discovery to resolve a cursor endpoint first.
  • Continues to reject cursor packets sent from a different IPv6 peer.

Version 1.2 · September 17, 2026

  • Lets Windows select an available TCP listening port at startup and advertises the actual port through Discovery.
  • Fixes Extend receiver cursor endpoint selection: uses the peer’s Discovery-confirmed service port instead of the receiver’s own UDP port.
  • Validates cursor UDP packets against the remote IPv6 address, link-local interface scope, and port. Packets from unexpected endpoints are rejected.
  • Keeps Discovery running when an incoming session needs the peer’s UDP endpoint to be resolved.

Cursor UDP uses the same port as the peer’s advertised TCP service. The two computers do not need to use the same port.

Version 1.1 · September 16, 2026

  • Fixes an address-selection issue where a discovered peer was discarded when Windows DNS-SD returned a link-local IPv6 address without an interface index. The app now probes eligible active interfaces.
  • Adds diagnostic logs for discovery registration, browsing, name resolution, ignored peers, and outgoing TCP probes. Repeated identical results are suppressed.
  • Configures an EdDSA public key for signed WinSparkle updates.
  • Updates the Windows application and installer icons to match the macOS app.

For version 1.0 users, install 1.1 manually: version 1.0 was released without the update verification key.

Version 1.0 · Initial release

  • Mirror a screen between Windows and a compatible DeskJoin Screen device. Windows can send or receive the mirrored screen.
  • Use Windows as the receiving display for Extend mode. Windows cannot create or initiate its own extended desktop.
  • Find nearby devices on the local network and select them from the Windows system tray.
  • Stream H.264 video over the RTC media connection, with network adapter selection tied to the control connection.
  • Display the remote cursor with separate cursor updates.
  • Validate discovered peers and improve connection recovery when network conditions change.
  • Install with optional desktop and startup shortcuts, Windows Firewall rules, and an uninstaller.

Requirements

Windows 10 or later on an x64 PC. Both devices must be on a reachable local network and run compatible DeskJoin Screen versions with RTC media support. Sending a screen requires a supported Media Foundation H.264 hardware encoder.

This installer is not code-signed. Windows may display an unknown-publisher prompt.
