Can DeskJoin Screen help when an iMac screen is broken?

Yes, if the iMac can still start, join your local network, and run DeskJoin Screen. Another Mac can display its screen, while input remains on the iMac.

Is this an external monitor adapter?

No. DeskJoin Screen is software. It does not repair the screen or turn another device into a hardware input for a dead iMac.

Can I recover files this way?

It may help you view the iMac while using its connected keyboard and mouse if macOS is running normally. It is not a data recovery tool.

Does the other Mac need the same Apple ID?

No. DeskJoin Screen does not require both Macs to use the same Apple ID or a product login.
