DeskJoin Control FAQ

Using one keyboard and mouse across Windows and Mac computers.

What is DeskJoin Control?

DeskJoin Control lets one keyboard and mouse operate nearby computers. Move the pointer through a configured screen edge and your keyboard, clicks, and scrolling follow it to the other computer.

Is DeskJoin Control free?

Yes. DeskJoin Control is free to download and use on Windows and macOS. Install it on both computers to share one keyboard and mouse over your local network.

Does it support Windows and Mac?

Yes. DeskJoin Control 1.3.1 is available for Windows 10 or later, and version 1.5 is available for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 11 or later.

Do the computers need to use the same operating system?

No. DeskJoin Control is designed for Windows-to-Mac as well as computers using the same supported operating system.

How do I switch between computers?

Choose whether the other computer is on the left or right. Push the pointer through that screen edge to move control across, then cross back through the matching edge to return.

What input is shared?

The current design covers pointer movement, mouse buttons, scrolling, keyboard input, and modifier keys. It does not turn the other computer into an extended display.

Does DeskJoin Control require an account?

No. The computers discover, pair, and connect directly on the local network.

What permissions are required on macOS?

macOS requires Accessibility permission for software that controls keyboard and pointer input. Local Network permission may also be requested for discovery and connection.

How is the connection secured?

DeskJoin Control uses TLS 1.2 for pairing and reliable control traffic, including keyboard and mouse-button events. The separate UDP path for pointer movement and, on macOS, scrolling is not encrypted. Use it on computers and networks you trust.

What happens if the connection ends?

DeskJoin Control is designed to release held keys and mouse buttons and restore local pointer control. On Mac, Option+Shift provides an emergency pointer recall.

Is DeskJoin Control available to download now?

Yes. Download version 1.3.1 for Windows 10 or later on x64 PCs, or version 1.5 for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 11 or later. Windows installation requires administrator approval to install the input service.
