Your clipboard travels between your devices.
DeskJoin Clipboard shares text, images, and files directly among connected Windows PCs, Macs, iPhones, and iPads on your local network. Current versions, including Windows, encrypt clipboard and file transfers in transit with TLS 1.2 and use device pairing to verify peers. Shared content is not uploaded to DeskJoin. One connected workspace can contain up to four devices. Website visits, software update requests, App Store purchases, and embedded video playback are separate internet connections.
App workflow status, not your personal content: versions with status reporting send operational events, such as successful pairing and synchronization counts, to DeskJoin over HTTPS. The report payload does not include personal details, clipboard contents, or file contents. Routine network connection information and information you voluntarily send to support are handled separately, as explained below.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how DeskJoin ("DeskJoin," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with DeskJoin Clipboard, its product pages at deskjoin.app/clipboard, downloads, and update services (the "Service"). DeskJoin Clipboard shares clipboard content and files among supported Windows, macOS, iOS, and iPadOS devices on the same local network. It is a separate product from DeskJoin Screen.
The Windows and macOS versions are free. The iPhone and iPad version is free to download through Apple's App Store and includes five clipboard transfers per day. A one-time Standard in-app purchase unlocks unlimited transfers. Apple processes the purchase. Features and operating-system integration vary by platform and version. This Policy does not describe Screen's display streaming, screen-recording permissions, or Extend and Mirror usage events.
2. Information processed on your devices and local network
To discover nearby devices, maintain a connected workspace containing up to four devices, and share content, DeskJoin Clipboard processes the following information on your devices and exchanges relevant information with nearby or connected devices:
- Discovery and connection information: device names, operating-system information, local network addresses, service information, connection settings, and session identifiers. A device name may contain a person's name and can be visible during local discovery.
- Pairing and remembered devices: public-key fingerprints, trust records, device identifiers, and automatic-reconnection preferences are stored locally to recognize devices you have paired.
- Clipboard text and images: on Windows and macOS, supported content copied while connected can be read from the operating-system clipboard and written to a connected device's clipboard. On iPhone and iPad, clipboard content is read or written when you choose Set Clipboard or Get Clipboard, subject to operating-system controls. Clipboard content may include sensitive information you copy, such as a private message or password.
- Files and folders: names of selected items, relative paths, sizes, transfer identifiers, integrity checks, and file contents are processed to perform supported transfers. On desktop, file contents are transferred when you paste on the receiving computer. On iPhone and iPad, items you share with DeskJoin may be staged temporarily in the app's shared container, and received files are stored locally so they can be accessed through the app or Files.
- Session messages: connection, disconnection, capability, heartbeat, progress, cancellation, and transfer-completion messages.
- Local preferences and diagnostics: the apps store connection preferences and settings locally. Technical debug output can include connection addresses, identifiers, status, and errors.
DeskJoin does not receive or store these local clipboard and file contents through the sharing service. On Windows and macOS, clipboard monitoring can update a connected desktop automatically. On iPhone and iPad, sharing is initiated with Set Clipboard, Get Clipboard, the share sheet, or another visible app action; iOS or iPadOS may display a paste-permission prompt.
Windows file transfers use local temporary markers and staging files to detect a paste destination and receive data. A supported Cut operation may delete source items after the receiving computer confirms completion and the sender's safety checks pass. Copy leaves the source in place. Other apps with access to the receiving clipboard or destination files may also read the content; their handling is outside DeskJoin's control.
3. Information sent to DeskJoin or our service providers
Software update checks
The desktop apps may check DeskJoin's HTTPS update feeds and download updates. These requests expose routine connection information, such as IP address, request time, and technical request headers, which may include app or operating-system version information, to DeskJoin and its hosting provider. They do not require sending your clipboard or transferred file contents. The Windows app uses WinSparkle and preserves its update preferences.
App Store and purchases
The iPhone and iPad version is distributed through Apple's App Store and uses StoreKit for the one-time Standard upgrade. Apple processes App Store account, payment, tax, and transaction information under Apple's policies. DeskJoin does not receive your full payment-card details. The app receives product, transaction, and entitlement information needed to offer, verify, or restore the upgrade.
Website visits and downloads
Our hosting and content-delivery providers may process IP addresses, browser or user-agent information, requested pages or files, referring pages, and request times to deliver and protect the website, downloads, and update feed. The Clipboard product page sends its page identifier to DeskJoin's website counter, which increments an aggregate total. That event does not include clipboard contents, file contents, or a device name. Routine network request information is still processed by the hosting infrastructure.
The iPhone and iPad guide embeds a YouTube video using YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain. If you load or play the video, Google and YouTube may process network, browser, and interaction information under their own policies.
Windows and macOS download-button clicks also increment separate aggregate download counters. Page and download counters retain daily and cumulative totals without a visitor identifier. These totals measure page events or clicks, not unique people, completed downloads, or installations. Screen's Extend and Mirror counters are not Clipboard features.
App workflow status reports
Versions that implement first-launch reporting also send a one-time first-launch event with a required random event identifier to prevent duplicate counting on retries. This measures reported first starts, not unique people or verified installations. The event contains no device or personal identifier, clipboard contents, or files; clearing local app data or reinstalling may result in another report.
Windows 2.6 stores this random event identifier and its completion state locally before reporting. It retries temporary failures with the same identifier and does not report again after success on later launches or upgrades. Existing installations with no first-launch record also report once when this feature first runs.
App versions with status reporting send information about the app's workflow to DeskJoin over HTTPS so we can understand how its functions are being used. The current reporting endpoints record successful pairing events and the number of completed synchronizations. A report identifies the event type and count, with an optional random per-report identifier to prevent duplicate counting on retries. This identifier identifies a report, not a person or device.
The report format varies by app version. The macOS implementation also sends its platform and app version with pairing or received-clipboard-update counts and keeps pending update counts and the last reporting day in local preferences. These are operational fields, not clipboard contents or a persistent device identity. Reports may be delayed, batched, rejected, or lost, so the totals are not a complete record of every transfer or a count of unique users.
These status report payloads do not include personal data such as your name, email address, phone number, or account details. They also do not include clipboard text or images, file contents, filenames or paths, device names, persistent device identifiers, or pairing credentials. Reporting that a synchronization succeeded does not send what was synchronized.
We store report identifiers, event types, counts, receipt times, and daily and cumulative totals in our Cloudflare-hosted database. Report identifiers are retained to recognize retries. Cloudflare processes routine connection information, including IP addresses, for delivery and rate limiting; the counters do not store IP addresses. These statistics are separate from Google Ads measurement and do not change the local transfer of clipboard content between devices.
Google Ads measurement
Clipboard product pages use the Google tag to measure whether our ads lead to Windows or macOS download-button clicks. Google may receive the page URL, referring information or an advertising click identifier, browser and device information, IP address, request time, consent state, and the platform-specific download-click event. This website measurement is separate from local clipboard and file sharing in the apps.
If you allow advertising measurement, the website grants Google's advertising and analytics storage, advertising user-data, and ad-personalization consent settings. Google may set or read cookies or similar storage and use website signals for measurement and personalized advertising under its policies. Before a choice or if you decline, those consent settings remain denied, although the Google tag still loads and may send limited, cookieless measurement and consent-status signals. Your choice is stored in this browser's local storage and shared across the Screen and Clipboard product pages.
DeskJoin does not send clipboard contents, transferred file contents, local device names, email addresses, phone numbers, or enhanced-conversion customer data through this tag. See Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Business Data Responsibility information.
Communications
If you contact us, we receive your email address and the message, diagnostics, or attachments you choose to send. Avoid sending passwords, private clipboard contents, or confidential files. Review and redact diagnostic material before sharing it with support.
The Support page also accepts messages without an account. We store the product, topic, message, optional reply email, submission time, reference ID, and handling status in our Cloudflare-hosted database. Messages are accessible through our private administration area and are not published. Providing an email address is optional; without one, we cannot reply by email. The form does not upload your clipboard, files, or device diagnostics automatically.
Versions with an in-app feedback form send the message you enter, optional email address, product and topic, and a random submission identifier when you choose Send. This is a separate, voluntary support request, not an automatic workflow report; the form does not attach clipboard contents, files, or diagnostic logs.
The Support form page does not load the Google Ads tag. Feedback text and reply email addresses are not sent as advertising conversion events.
Cloudflare processes connection information, including the request IP address, to limit repeated submissions. We do not store that IP address in the feedback record. Contact support@deskjoin.app with your message reference if you need help with a submitted message or want to request its deletion.
4. Why we use information
We process information to provide discovery, pairing, clipboard synchronization, and file transfer; remember connection preferences; verify App Store entitlements; deliver the website, downloads, and updates; understand app workflow status and aggregate feature use; understand aggregate website use and measure advertising-driven download clicks; diagnose failures and protect the Service; respond to requests; and meet legal obligations.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you request, legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, legal obligations, and consent where required.
5. Device access and permissions
- Local network: the app needs to discover and communicate with nearby devices. Windows Firewall or your operating system may request permission. Windows, iPhone, and iPad connections require IPv6 on the local network.
- Clipboard: the desktop apps read and write supported clipboard content while connected. On iPhone and iPad, you initiate clipboard access with Set Clipboard or Get Clipboard, and the operating system may ask for paste permission.
- Files and sharing: supported transfers read items you select and write received items locally. Desktop Cut and confirmed replacement operations may remove or replace files. On iPhone and iPad, the share sheet can send selected files to DeskJoin, and received files can be accessed through Files.
Denying required access prevents the related feature from working. Clipboard sharing does not need to stream or record your display; a copied screenshot is handled as an image in the clipboard.
7. Retention
- Clipboard content: disconnecting clears pending synchronization work but does not erase content already written to an operating-system clipboard, clipboard history, or another app. Those copies follow the device's settings and the receiving app's behavior.
- Transferred files: completed files remain in the receiving destination until you remove them. On iPhone and iPad, staged outgoing items and received files remain in the app's local or shared storage until they are removed or cleaned up by the app or operating system. Disconnecting or uninstalling the app does not recall copies already delivered to another device.
- Pairing and preferences: remembered-device records, trust information, automatic-reconnection settings, and other preferences are stored locally. The iPhone and iPad app stores pairing credentials in the Keychain. Windows connection preferences are stored in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\DeskJoinClipboard\connections.conf, and update preferences are maintained locally by WinSparkle. - Purchase information: App Store purchase history and payment records are retained by Apple under its policies. The app retains or retrieves entitlement state as needed to recognize and restore Standard access.
- Website totals: aggregate counters may be retained as daily and cumulative totals.
- App workflow reports: event types, counts, receipt times, and random report identifiers are retained for usage statistics and retry deduplication; the reporting database has no automatic expiration for these records. Daily and cumulative totals may be retained. These records do not contain the clipboard or file contents involved in an event.
- Operational and support information: retained as reasonably needed for delivery, security, troubleshooting, support history, and legal obligations. Retention depends on the type of record and applicable requirements.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
You can disconnect or quit the app to stop sharing, forget a paired device, disable automatic reconnection, cancel an active file transfer, review local-network, clipboard, file, and firewall permissions, change a device name before discovery, manage update preferences, delete received or staged files, restore an App Store purchase, and remove local app data. Do not copy sensitive content while a desktop clipboard is connected unless you intend to share it. Closing the Windows transfer window only hides it; use Cancel to stop a transfer.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of personal information we control, object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to your data-protection authority. Contact us below to make a request. Verification and legal exceptions may apply. We cannot delete clipboard contents or files held only on your devices or another recipient's device.
You can allow or decline the Google Ads consent settings described above and reopen the choice below. Declining does not prevent downloads or local clipboard sharing and does not stop all Google network requests. You can also clear existing cookies and site storage through your browser settings.
9. Security and local-network notice
Encrypted transfers, including Windows: current DeskJoin Clipboard versions use TLS 1.2 to encrypt clipboard and file-transfer connections between devices. Windows has supported encrypted transfers and device verification since version 1.8; these protections are not limited to macOS.
Device verification: when pairing Windows and macOS computers for the first time, compare the six-digit verification code and accept it on both computers before trusting the connection. The apps remember paired device identities using locally stored public-key fingerprints and trust records. If a device's public key changes, confirmation is required again.
Every connected device must use a compatible version with TLS and device-pairing support. Older, unencrypted protocol versions cannot connect to current versions. Transport encryption does not remove content already delivered to another device or replace your decision about which devices to connect.
Use devices you recognize on a trusted, secured local network, and stop sharing when you no longer need it. HTTPS separately protects configured update connections, and signed updates help verify update authenticity. No system can be guaranteed completely secure.
10. International processing
Website, advertising measurement, update, App Store, embedded video, and support information may be processed by DeskJoin or service providers in countries other than yours, where data-protection laws may differ. Where required, legally recognized safeguards apply to international transfers. This is separate from direct sharing among your devices.
11. Children's privacy
DeskJoin Clipboard is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information to us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
12. Third-party links and software
The Windows app incorporates WinSparkle for updates. The iPhone and iPad app uses Apple's App Store and StoreKit, and the product page embeds YouTube. External websites, operating-system clipboard history or synchronization, Files, backup services, and other apps have their own terms and privacy practices. This Policy does not govern information those services collect independently.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as Clipboard's features or legal requirements change. Revisions will appear on this page with an updated date, with additional notice for material changes where required by law.
