DeskJoin Remote for Windows 0.7.0
October 15, 2026 · Windows x64 · Development preview
What's new
- The Windows Viewer now uses D3D11, Direct2D and a DXGI flip-discard swap chain for hardware rendering. Each new frame is uploaded once; scaling, aspect ratio and black borders are rendered by the GPU.
- Presentation uses a two-buffer swap chain with maximum frame latency set to one. Busy, minimized or occluded windows retry the latest frame rather than queueing older presentations. Resize and graphics-device recovery rebuild the required rendering resources.
- Improved connection-probe cancellation, discovery refresh, session cleanup and mouse double-click tracking.
- Windows Hosts explicitly report the 15-minute free-session limit. The Viewer shows one English notification after cleanup when the peer supplies that reason. Empty disconnect messages from current Mac Hosts cannot be identified as a session-limit event.
- The tray icon now matches the Mac screen-and-pointer artwork. It switches between black and white for the taskbar theme and turns red while this computer is being viewed or controlled. Disconnecting restores its normal appearance; theme and DPI changes refresh the icon.
- Dynamic Viewer FrameSize, H.264 video, keyboard/mouse control, optional system audio and signed WinSparkle updates remain available.
Installing and updating
Users of 0.5.0 or 0.6.0 can select Check for updates in About. Users of 0.4.2 or earlier must install 0.7.0 manually because those releases did not have an update feed configured. The same installer supports a fresh install or an upgrade. Quit DeskJoin Remote before running it. Saved device identity, pairing records, settings and logs are retained. Host starts disabled after launch.

Requirements and known limitations
- Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, or Windows 11, x64; Windows Media Foundation is required. The .NET desktop and Visual C++ runtimes are included.
- The Viewer requires a hardware GPU compatible with D3D11 and Direct2D. Normal presentation has no WARP or GDI fallback. Persistent graphics initialization or recovery failure ends the session and is logged.
- H.264 decoding and color conversion retain their existing Media Foundation paths. Decoded BGRA frames still pass through CPU memory; this release does not provide end-to-end GPU zero-copy or guarantee a particular frame rate or latency.
- The installer has an Ed25519 update signature, but no Windows Authenticode publisher signature.
- Local network only. Host sessions last up to 15 minutes. Clipboard and file transfer are not included.
- The Mac protocol baseline remains 0.9.0 / 6ea61ea, with negotiated dynamic FrameSize support. Interoperability with other macOS releases has not been verified.
- H.264 video uses a separate, token-authorized but unencrypted TCP channel. Pairing, control, HID and optional audio use TLS. Use a trusted local network.
Validation
Release checks cover 13 native test groups and the WPF smoke check, including local hardware-GPU rendering, resize and resource recovery, session-limit cleanup and reconnect, and tray state and artwork. Synthetic and loopback checks do not establish cross-machine performance. Actual two-machine Mac/Windows operation with this release, additional GPU models and an end-to-end installed upgrade remain to be verified.
